Decor Inpiration at the Grocery Store

Hi friends! I hope this finds you all well and staying safe. The past few weeks I have blogged about ways to update and refresh your spaces with what you have while we practice social separation and distancing. But let’s face it, sometimes it’s nice to have something new to refresh and liven up your rooms especially as the seasons change. With most stores closed and some online shops sold out of the very items you may want, it can be frustrating. However, we still need groceries, right? And believe it or not your grocery store can be an excellent source and inspiration for decor items. Read on for some of my faves quick and easy ideas!

Flowers

Most grocery stores (large and small) still have fresh cut flowers available. Flowers are a perfect way to add colour and texture and brighten your spaces! And they aren’t just for the dining or coffee table either! Consider adding a few stems to a pretty jar for the bedroom or bathroom or the entranceway table.

Candles

Candles (scented and unscented) are regularly available at the larger grocery stores. And while many of us are heading into the warmer months, candle light is still a perfect way to add ambience (indoors or out) to your spaces. Displayed in a grouping on a plate or tray, in lanterns on the patio or nestled in hurricane lamps on a bed of sand with rocks or shells on the coffee table or mantle add a beachy vibe.

Greenery

I have mentioned in past blog posts that every space needs something living – a plant or a pet – to keep it vibrant. Many grocery stores sell stems of greenery such as bamboo, fern stems or potted plants. But check out the produce section! Potted herbs can fit the bill and provide fresh ingredients for your recipes and let’s face it, many of us are cooking lots and trying out new recipes these days.

Napkins

I’m a big, big fan of linen napkins but for a fresh addition and splash of colour, paper napkins can’t be beat. While you aren’t entertaining these days, you deserve a nicely set table with pretty napkins to turn an ordinary meal into a special occasion.

Fruit

Who knew fruit was nutritious, tasty and a decor item all at once?! You will never look at apples or oranges the same way. I love using bowls from my pottery collection in my decor and bright green Granny Smith apples in a dark blue bowl or citrus fruit in one of the red toned bowls can easily brighten a kitchen counter or table.
