Easy Decor Updates During Social Separation

Hello my décor enthusiasts! Needless to say, each and every one of us has been affected by the government and public health measures implemented during the COVID-19 pandemic and I hope you are safe and staying well.

While spending more time in our homes with family can be rewarding in a number of ways, I know you are likely looking around your home and finding the spaces may be in need of a refresh and update. While I know a number of you are completing updates such as painting, rearranging furniture, adding new draperies, etc. others do not want to get that involved. To help you out, the following décor updates will renew your spaces quickly and easily and help you love your rooms again.

Shop Your Home

I know when you decorate your spaces they are beautiful but after a time, they become tired. Try ‘shopping your home’. Walk through each space, look at it as objectively as possible and consider how décor items from one space might work in another room. How will the candle lantern in the bedroom look on the coffee table? Could the plant in the bathroom breathe fresh life and colour into the dining room? Would the candles on the mantle add a dramatic, romantic touch to the bathroom? You get the idea! Experiment until your rooms look and feel renewed.

Groups of Three

I talk often of the ‘rule of odds’ - an odd number of items brings balance and visual depth and richness to your displays. This can apply to candles, pillows, décor items, etc. Regrouping your items in place or in another location is a really simple update that breathes new life to the space.

Elevate Items

Decor items at varying heights adds depth and visual interest to your displays. Pedestal plates and books are easy ways to bring height to a display and can add more colour and texture as well. I love the look of a stack of books (make it 3!) set horizontally with a décor item on top! The look is at once casual and chic. And don’t think of this style as only for the coffee table – try it on your mantel, night stand or the book shelf itself.

Botanicals

Every room needs something living to bring energy and vitality. While you can’t shop for a new house plant, do you have one that could provide cuttings? A few sprigs of ivy in a mason jar, votive candle holder or a pretty water glass can add the life a room needs.

I hope these ideas will encourage you look at your rooms differently and help you give your spaces a quick and easy update that will have you loving them again.
